· Joined a successful small start-up providing web-based and multimedia content delivery for advertising and training applications.
· Organized and managed IT infrastructure for internal and customer facilities including in-house and commercially leased dedicated servers. Administered Windows Server and Linux platforms with SQL Server and MySQL databases, serving dozens of domains with web, email and specialized services. Instituted and maintained backup and software repository policies and procedures.
· Built web sites and web-based database applications for major pharmaceutical companies, executive health care information exchange, technical product line introduction for European distributors, hospital public-education video sharing, training portal for delivering professional project management training to government agencies, contributor accounting for non-profit agencies, information portal portal and athletic field scheduling application for a large amateur soccer club.

System Architect/Project Manager 2002 to 2007
· Took on a challenging contract to help out this company I helped to start up in the 1970s updating the companys bread-and-butter product. This was a successful but decades-old business management and accounting application for wholesale distributors of petroleum products.
· Helped the company decide, based on technology and market demand, to choose Windows, Microsofts then brand-new .NET technologies, and SQL Server as the platform.
· Designed the system architecture. Wrote the shared program startup module, license-checking, server synchronization, and exception-handling modules. Wrote mass quotes email marketing module. Built the project website with HTML/CSS and later using Sharepoint. Wrote essentially all the projects design documentation and the development standards and procedures..
· Managed the project. Ramped up a project staffed part-time with the companys most experienced developers, hired 7 people as programmers, testers, support and training staff. Conducted beta tests and brought the core system to market after 3 years of development. Work continues with add-ons and optional features. Size of the code base is about 3 million lines of VB.NET and SQL.

Director, Software Engineering 2000 to 2001
· Joined a Spokane start-up company that had become quite successful, with multiple hardware/software products released to market and installed in the Internet backbone. Came on board shortly after they were acquired by the French telecomm giant Alcatel.
· Worked to overcome a number of challenges, notably mass exodus of the original talent because of disillusionment with corporate management. This was combined with an aggressive development schedule for a future generation of product at the very leading edge of Internet technology. Recruited and hired staff, rebuilt communication and teamwork. Delivered 4 complex product releases on time over a period of 2 years, preserving a $75M/yr revenue stream.
· Established working relationships and cooperative development with corporate development groups in Silicon Valley and in Antwerp. Managed multiple outsourced projects with Wipro in Bangalore.

Application Number: 10/023,542. This is a hardware+software design applicable
to telecom backbone carrier networks. It enables configurable intermediate
virtual partitioning of the network based on service request.

Manager (later Director, later V.P.), Software Development 1994 to 2000
· Managed the Spokane software product development group. Supervised divisions investment in new software research and development. Ultimately had annual budget responsibility in the $7M range. Directed a staff of 5 managers over 75 technical employees.
· Traveled extensively to corporate locations world-wide. Communicated the strategy and the detailed technical information throughout the company.
· Proposed and led the project of moving the companys primary Pinnacle Plus product from proprietary hardware and specialized Unix to Intel PCs and Windows NT. Delivered this project on time in 6 months, after initially estimating one year to do it, saving over a quarter-million dollars.
· Built relationships and agreements across departments and international divisions to make most effective use of staff in strategic development projects. Saved an estimated $2M/yr in staffing costs by organizing joint development projects with teams in Shelton, CT and Ivrea and Bologna, Italy.
Development Engineer; International Software Consultant 1984 to 1994
· Embedded systems application programming in Z-80 assembly language and in C on Unix.
· Led on-site software development projects for international distributors and customers.
· Designed and implemented a controller-based foreign currency exchange system deployed by Midland Bank at Londons Gatwick airport.
· Led the software development for a major joint-venture project in China, delivering the first-ever branch bank computerization for ICBC Tianjin. This successful project led to 4 other major contracts in China and $200M in revenue over 5 years.
